How To Win Organic SEO in 2019
This post is about SEO, the organic kind. On-page SEO tactics seemingly change with every Google algorithm update, but it's still wildly important to stay on top of it. Google is responsible for 90%+ of all organic search traffic. Please don't believe me, and Google it. It’s the center of the universe, and understanding how it operates is key to success. Understanding search engine optimization gives you insight on how customers are searching for the products and services you offer. Guess what, they may not be finding you the way you think they are. You might discover that nobody is coming through the front door.
Let's look at some 2019 SEO stats. Below are some choice cuts from Hubspot's "The Ultimate List of Marketing Statistics for 2019". I'll drop the link at the end of this post because it's incredible.
1. 70-80% of search engine users are only focusing on the organic results. (MarTech, 2018)
2. 50% of search queries are four words or longer. (IMPACT, 2019)
3. 72% of consumers who did a local search visited a store within five miles. (Wordstream, 2016)
4. Google drives 96% of mobile search traffic. (Jody Nimetz Co., 2018)
5. More than 46% of Americans will check their smartphone before getting out of bed. (Hubspot)
Keyword Research and Focus
How do your customers search for the products and services you offer? Well, start googling, it's right there. Pro tip, look at the "Searches related to" suggestions at the bottom of a search page. That's the other ways people are getting to that information. The trick is to own the niche. You'll never beat the goliaths using the same high competition keyphrase. For example, there are 30 dentists in your city, and they all want to be first in a search for 'dentist.' There is enormous competition for that keyword. However, 'dental implants,' is a local search desert. Create the best page on the internet for your niche service and watch your rankings climb. Every page can and should be trying to rank for something specific.
Tell Me I Can Get #1 In Search
You can wish it. You can want it. The truth is, domain authority, and the keyword you are trying to target may be out of reach. Understanding where and how to target keywords is the way to win at SEO. It's all about leveraging your niche. There are probably hundreds of companies that do what you do, and they all want to be number one in search. You do 'xyz' the best, so get serious in the telling.
Make Your Website a Place People Want To Stay
Keeping organic SEO in mind has a double benefit. One, it keeps your site ranking in search. Two, it keeps you updating your site and offering new content regularly, which your customers love. If you are doing it right, you are generating a ton of content. Regardless if a potential customer finds you in an organic search, a paid search or on social, you've already created a better site to visit by specializing your content.
Get Mobile First
According to Statista mobile searches have almost doubled in the last five years. From 34% to 60%. In the last five years, the size of my phone has doubled as well. Go figure. I spend a lot of time on it. So do you. Have you checked your website on your phone lately?
